TĀ MĀTOU WHAINGA | OUR VISION
Nōna Te Ao Trust was inspired by the whakatauki:
Ko te manu e kai ana i te miro nōna te ngahere, ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga nōna te ao.
The forest belongs to the bird who feasts on the miro berry, the world belongs to the bird who feasts on education.
This whakatauki talks to the importance of knowledge and how we must venture into the unknown and continuously seek to understand the world if we are to shape it. The purpose of Nōna Te Ao Trust and our programmes is to expose rural rangatahi Māori to the world, and support them to be leaders and realise their potential.
Ā MĀTOU MAHI | WHAT WE DO
Empower our rangatira mo āpōpō (leaders of tomorrow) through a leadership workshop that would enable our rangatahi who live in these areas to see the opportunities that can be provided through education. Providing an opportunity for rangatahi to understand how they can use their innate skills to enhance the prospects for Māori and for their own whānau. To show them that they are special and if they can dream it, then it is possible.
